Wie zijn wij dan…….
Nou zoals de site al zegt zijn wij Bas en Esther.
Wij hebben het geluk dat we dezelfde hobby’s delen zowel reizen als fotograferen, en dat zijn er twee die heel goed zijn te combineren. Het belangrijkste wat er mee gaat op vakantie zijn dan ook onze fototassen!
Het liefst reizen wij naar Amerika, hier zijn we in November 2021 dan ook voor de 20e keer geweest.
Inmiddels zijn er ook al wel wat andere landen op ons verlanglijstje komen.
Helaas voor nu hebben we nog te maken met COVID en is het niet makkelijk om te reizen en te plannen. Wel dankzij COVID zijn we de laatste twee jaar wat meer gedongen in Europa te blijven en hebben ons hier ook verbaasd over de mooie natuur.
Ook in Nederland zijn er wel plekken die we graag bezoeken en worden er steeds meer. Vooral voor mij is de herfst het hoogte punt van het jaar en ga opzoek naar paddenstoelen!
Bas fotografeert over het algemeen het liefst beesten en vooral vogels, hij fotografeer dan ook met en 200-600/F5.6.
Ik bij voorkeur geen vogels die vliegen altijd weg. Al moet ik zeggen in een vogelhut vind ik het erg leuk. En ook in Florida zijn ze niet heel schuw en vind ik het ook erg leuk, en heb dan ook sinds kort mijn eigen telelens, 100-400/F4.0
Verder gebruik ik veel de 24-105/F4.0, en heb ik 24/F1.8 vast en een 90 macro/F2.8 lens die ik gebruik.
Who are we.....
So we are Bas and Esther.
We are lucky to share the same hobbies both traveling and photography, and those are two that can be combined very well.
The most important thing we take with us on our holidays are our photo bags! We prefer to travel to America, so we went here for the 20th time in November 2021.
In the meantime, some other countries have also been added to our wish list.
Unfortunately for now we are still dealing with COVID and it is not easy to travel and plan. But also thanks to COVID, we have been forced to stay in Europe a bit more in the last two years and we have also been surprised about the beautiful nature here.
There are also places in the Netherlands that we like to visit and there are more and more. Especially for me, autumn is the highlight of the year and 1 like to photgraph mushrooms!
Bas generally prefers to photograph animals and especially birds, so he shoots with a 200-600/F5.6.
I prefer no birds that always fly away. Although I must say in a bird house I really like it. And also in Florida they are not very shy and I like it a lot, and I recently got my own telephoto lens, 100-400/F4.0
I also use the 24-105/F4.0 a lot, and I have a 24/F1.8 fixed and a 90 macro/F2.8 lens that I use.
Hoe is het zo ver gekomen
Ik fotografeer al sinds ik me kan herinneren alleen niet echt om de mooiste foto te maken maar voor de herinnering. Als kind had ik al vaak wel een camera in mijn handen. Ik kan me nog herinneren dat er van die opzet flitser waren vroeger, elke keer als je er een had gebruikt “pats” lampje kapot en dan had je van de 10 nog 9 lampjes over.
Ook als ik vroeger op Tienertour ging (en dat is al even geleden) had ik een wegwerpcamera bij me. En ik heb dan inderdaad veel foto’s van vroeger.
Wij zijn al sinds 1995 samen en als wij samen op vakantie gingen hadden we ook altijd vele rolletjes die ontwikkeld moesten worden, maar ook als we een dagje op stap gingen in Nederland.
Bas fotografeerde veel met de camera van zijn vader, een Practika MTL5, ja daar ging een rolletje in en moest handmatig worden ingesteld, en je zag pas of hoe foto was geworden als je rolletje ontwikkeld was!
Echter gebruikte ik altijd een automatisch cameraatje, ik was niet zo van de instellingen……..
De eerste digitale camera’s kwamen eraan en hebben we een Monilta Dimage 5 gekocht… jaahhh een 3.3 megapixel camera!
Rond 2006 kwam Canon met de 30D, een semiprofessionele camera. Deze hebben we toen aangeschaft maar ik moet zeggen dat ik er niet zo handig mee was, ik zette hem altijd op automatisch, Bas echter wel…..
Rond 2010 kwam Cannon met goede compact camera de power shot S95 dat werd mijn camera echter hebben we deze snel verkocht want al vlot kwam de S100. Hier heb ik een tijdje mee gefotografeerd.
Ondertussen kwam de 50D en een telelens 100-400 van Canon.
Toen kwam het HDR-tijdperk van de mobiele telefoon! Voor mij een topcamera en de HDR werkte best prima.
In 2016 kwamen we terug uit Cananda en was met foto’s bezig en was redelijk teleurgesteld dat ik niet veel kon veranderen aan de foto’s die ik met mijn telefoon had gemaakt. Vanaf toen ben ik aan de slag gegaan met de basis instellingen van de camera’s van Bas de 30D en de 50D.
Nu we alle twee druk waren hiermee liep het volledig uit de hand! Ik denk dat ik meer fotografeer en creatiever ben maar Bas is technisch heel sterk en weet vaak goed hoe met de instellingen om te gaan.
Inmiddels zijn we vorig jaar overgegaan op Sony systeem camera’s en dat was even wennen maar we zijn er zeer tevreden mee!
How did it get this far.....
I've been shooting for as long as I can remember just not really to get the best picture but for the memorys. As a child I often had a camera in my hands. I can still remember that there were flashes you put on your camer, every time you had used one, "pats" light broke and then you had 9 of the 10 lights left.
Even when I used to go on on holiday with the train as a teenager I had a disposable camera with me. And I do have a lot of photos from the past.
We have been together since 1995 and when we went on holiday together we always had many filmroles that had to be developed, but also when we went out for a day in the Netherlands.
Bas photographed a lot with his father's camera, a Practika MTL5, yes there was a filmroll in it and had to be set manually, and you only saw how the photo had turned out when your filmroll had been developed!
However, I always used an automatic camera, I was not into the settings……..

Around 2010 Cannon came up with a good compact camera, the power shot S95, which became my camera, but we sold it quickly because the S100 came quickly. I used this for a while.
Meanwhile, the 50D and a telephoto lens 100-400 came from Canon.
Then there was the HDR era of the mobile phone! For me a top camera and the HDR worked quite well.
In 2016 we came back from Canada and was busy with photos and was quite disappointed that I couldn't change much about the photos I had taken with my phone. From then on I started working with the basic settings of Bas's cameras, the 30D and the 50D.
Now that we were both busy with this, it got completely got out of hand! I think I shoot more and I am more creative, but Bas is technically very strong and often knows how to deal with the settings.
We have now switched to Sony system cameras last year and that took some getting used to, but we are very satisfied with them!
